The following Lifeline Testimonial comes from Nancy Tuffill, a concerned daughter. Nancy actually bought her Mum a Lifeline Alarm only weeks before she needed it. In Nancy’s Lifeline testimonial she explains why she believes the alarm helped save her mother’s life.
A Life-saving Alarm in the Nick of Time
Just over 50 days after buying an alarm, on January 13, 2015, Nancy’s mother needed to use her Personal Alarm. The following moments are Nancy’s own observations, pieced together with what her Mum could remember.
Nancy’s Lifeline Testimonial:
- 7.00 a.m – Mum got up from her bed to use the bathroom. In the process of leaving the bedroom Mum fell and cut her head. She did not press the Lifeline Pendant straight away, instead she managed to shuffle herself into the bathroom, on her bottom, and grab towels to soak up the blood oozing from her head. The Lifeline Pendant was wet with blood so Mum thought it wouldn’t work, but she eventually thought she had better get help and pressed the button.
- 8.00 a.m – Lifeline quickly called my telephone number. They told me that Mum had activated her Lifeline Pendant but that they couldn’t hear her. When I got there the scene was chaotic. Mum was sat on the floor by the hand basin, the top half of her nightdress was soaked in blood and there were blood soaked towels on the floor and in the bath. I explained to Mum that I had to go and ring for an ambulance. Whilst doing this my sister came in and I explained what had happened. By this time Mum had been bleeding for two hours and was very weak – we also phoned the Lifeline operator and explained the situation.
- 10.00 a.m – I got to the hospital after the ambulance, sometime between 9.30 and 10.00 am. I spent the day with my Mum in the accident and emergency department at the hospital. Eventually the doctor found two cuts to the back of Mum’s head and stitched them up, one had six stitches and the other had four stitches. Mum was weak and shaky and suffering from shock.
- 6.10 p.m – We finally left the hospital approximately 6.10 pm. When speaking to Mum about the event later, she said how glad she was that we had persuaded her to get a Lifeline Alarm.
The Personal Alarm Service
The Lifeline Alarm has been designed to help older, frail and disabled people to remain living confidently in the comfort of their own home. It’s also very useful for those who live with long-term medical conditions, or anybody who lives alone.
For these groups of people there is always a worry about what will happen should they have some sort of accident in the home. Even if they live with others, it can be difficult to get the help needed in an emergency situation.
With a Lifeline Alarm all it takes is one push of a button, day or night, and our TSA Accredited Response Team will respond, reassure and call for help. Loved ones, friends and/or neighbours will be on there way to help you, as will the emergency services if they’re required.
