Top 10 Mother’s Day Activities

• Written by Kyle

We all want to give our mums a Mother’s Day to remember. They have done so much for us over the years; it’s only right we show how much we appreciate them. Whilst a meaningful gift and a heart-warming card go a long way, sometimes the best gift is our company. The question then is what to do with our time together? Fortunately, there are plenty of Mother’s Day activities to try.

This year, Mother’s Day takes place on the 19th of March. That means there’s still time to make last minute plans. If you’re struggling to decide what to do, take a look at our top 10 ideas for some additional inspiration.

10. Afternoon Tea

Whether you regularly pop over for a cuppa or rarely get the chance, going out for afternoon tea is the perfect opportunity for a catch-up. Rather than sitting down in the familiar surroundings of your mum’s living room, head out to a tearoom. As well as a cup of the finest tea in luxurious surroundings, you will also be free to sample tasty cream cakes and scones. Afternoon tea is one of those Mother’s Day activities that requires little effort but will leave you with plenty of warm memories.

9. Evening Meal

A full stomach after a hearty meal is certain to leave your mum feeling appreciated. Whether you cook it for her yourself or take her out to a restaurant, she is sure to enjoy the experience. You could make it a family affair and have everyone chip in for a big meal out – except for mum, of course. Or, if your mum would prefer a quieter meal, invite a couple of her close friends round for a catch-up and dinner.

8. Pamper Day

No matter how old we get, everyone appreciates a day without worries. There are many ways to pamper your mum on Mother’s Day: you could book a spa day, take her to her local salon, or just pour her a bath with a luxuriant bath bomb. If there are errands to be done around the house, do them for her. Pamper days are Mother’s Day activities that are sure to leave your mum feeling refreshed and appreciated.

7. Live Music

If your mum is musically inclined, why not treat her to some live music. Whilst the suitability of this Mother’s Day activity may depend on your mum’s health and age, there are events all over the country that could scratch that live music itch. It may be that there is a band playing at her local pub. Maybe there’s a tribute band in town playing your mum’s favourite songs. If you’re lucky, one of her top bands may be on tour. Grab some sitting tickets and enjoy the music without worrying about achy feet or falls.

6. Arts & Crafts Workshop

Few Mother’s Day activities get the mind working quite like an arts and crafts workshop. It’s a great opportunity to get out of the house and try some new things. Your mum might also make some new friends in the process. There are so many activities to choose from, too. You can try pottery, flower arranging, or a life drawing class. They will stimulate the mind and could prove to be the beginning – or revival – of a hobby.

5. Beach

Sometimes the simplest activities can be the most memorable. If the weather is nice enough, head down to the beach and enjoy the sand and sea. Whilst it won’t be like a trip to the Algarve, the salt and sand could prove invigorating. Moreover, spring weather can sometimes surprise us with remarkably warm days. Sun and sand aren’t the only things to look forward to at the beach. Grab some fish & chips and take a walk along the pier. The advantage of a spring visit is that there won’t be as many people around.

4. Shopping Spree

If your mum is up to it, why not head into town and stroll around the shops. A shopping spree can be a great way to spend the day, taking your mind off day-to-day worries. Retail therapy actually works! It’s also the ideal opportunity for you to treat your mum to some new clothes or household goodies. Whilst it may be important to take breaks as you move from shop to shop, a day out on the high street will leave you both with happy memories and purchases alike.

3. Baking

You don’t necessarily have to go out to engage in Mother’s Day activities. Some of the best bonding experiences can take place at home. You might have some fond memories from your childhood of baking together in the kitchen. Relive those simpler times by doing some baking on Mother’s Day. You will both have some tasty treats to indulge in at the end of the day. Make some old favourites, or perhaps try something new. Either way, your Mother’s Day bake-off is sure to be an experience to remember.

2. Wine Tasting

Did you know that the UK is home to more than 500 vineyards and 165 wineries? This means there are plenty of opportunities for you and your mum to enjoy a wine tasting experience. Wine tasting has become increasingly popular in recent years. It gives you an opportunity to try new flavours, sample special vintages, and it can be a very social experience too. If you decide to try a wine tasting experience, though, be sure to check your mum isn’t on any medication that could be adversely affected by wine.

1. Museum or Garden Visit

With so many museums and gardens in the UK offering free entry, these can make for the ideal day out without breaking the bank. There are a fantastic variety of venues around the country, each dealing with a different area of interest. If your mum is an art fan, consider a trip to the local gallery. For a glimpse at history, you could visit a living museum. Something as simple as a walk around some botanical gardens is sure to please an avid gardener.

Happy Mother’s Day

Whatever you choose to do, these Mother’s Day activities are sure to show your mum just how much you care. Before making any plans, however, make sure you are aware of your mum’s limits. Is she going to be able to walk for prolonged periods? Does she have any health conditions that could affect her during an activity?

Peace of Mind from LifeConnect24

The welfare of our mums is important every day of the year. If she needs some extra reassurance around the home, a Lifeline alarm can help.

With a Lifeline alarm, your mum will have round-the-clock access to our 24/7 Response Team. In an emergency, such as a fall, your mum presses the button on her pendant alarm. This will alert the team, who will attempt to speak to her to assess the situation. If they can’t hear her, they will assume help is needed.

Help can be arranged in two ways: the team will get in touch with your mum’s emergency contacts – which can include you – or they will alert the emergency services.

Additional peace of mind comes in the form of our fall detector package, which will automatically alert the Response Team if it detects a fall. Finally, why not consider a keysafe? In an emergency, our team can provide the code for the keysafe to paramedics, allowing them to enter the home and provide support quicker.
