Lifeline services for Birmingham

New retirement villages come to Birmingham

There are new retirement villages for the elderly in Birmingham and more to be completed by 2017. Our Lifeline services compliment these innovative homes, to enable independence in older age.

Bournville Gardens is part of a £200 million programme by the ExtraCare Charitable Trust which will deliver five new villages by 2017.

One third of the residents will receive help with care, including dementia. The development includes 18 communal facilities which are open to residents and their families as well as local older people. The facilities include a shop, library and IT suite, café bar and lounge, hairdressing and beauty salon, fitness suite, cash machine and gardens.

You can read more about these plans in the Birmingham Post, here.

Independence for the elderly or disabled

The retirement villages will aim to support health, independence and the social lives of elderly people. It has been referred to as ‘bold and radical’ in approaching old age in a non traditional way.

Councillor Cotton (Lab, Shard End) said,

“They also benefit the broader community around the centres, providing employment as well as a hub for other activities which non residents can come in and enjoy.

“The people who live there are not isolated and share in what goes on there.”

Being able to continue to live at home in older age is also hugely beneficial to the struggling NHS. Retirement villages seem a great option to live happily and healthily and fulfil many of people’s needs. You can read our tips for living independently, here.

Birmingham Lifeline services

Our Lifeline services proudly support living independently for as long as possible in Birmingham, and across the country. We’ve often talked about the benefits of independence for both physical and mental health in old age. (For example our love of senior playgrounds!)

Our Lifeline pendant alarms are the perfect solution for the elderly or disabled who live alone. They provide peace of mind that help will always be button press away. Once pressed the Response Team will respond and talk through the situation over the load speaker. After providing comfort to the user and understanding the situation, the care member will contact either a friend, neighbour, family member or the emergency services.

If you or a loved one are interested in the services we provide you can read more on the lifeline24 website. Or you can order a Lifeline Alarm today by calling 0800 999 0400 or by ordering online.
